The Avatar is that tiny pic that appears in your profile, and allows other people to quickly recognize you by a visual check.   

The default avatar is just an empty outline of a person.   In order to change it you must have a gif or jpg file no larger than 100 pixels, either horizontally or vertically. After you have obtained the resized picture, go to the main OH4 screen, look for "User CP" (CP stands for Control Panel), and from there look for the change avatar option, and then just follow the prompts from the system.

NOTE: Only the picture that you will be using as an avatar needs be 100 pixels.  Other pictures (like the ones in your ad) can be of any size.  Those pictures do not need to be resized.
